The Mittens Project is one of the most popular socio-recreational activities at Chez Doris, a daytime shelter for women in difficulty in downtown Montreal. Together, clients and volunteers transform new and used wool sweaters, which are donated to the organization. They are sorted, washed, dried, ironed, colour-coded, then cut by pattern and size before being sewn together and turned into mittens, slippers and scarves. The money made through the sale these items is used entirely for the activities and outings of clients at Chez Doris. When you buy a scarf, you’re not only getting a quality product, you’re also contributing to the well-being of more vulnerable women.
